Yes and no. Yes because no other framework gives us answers that are meaningful rather than handwavy intuition. No if by "science" you mean the current state of knowledge, as that is always changing as we find out new things. Which is why the phrase "today's universally accepted theories directly contradict those that preceded them" is not, as you seem to think, a condemnation of science it is the very essence of science. When scientists find out new things, they change their minds. Being human, they aren't very good at this and will hang on to old ideas long after the current evidence shows them to be false.

So basically, the answer is "yes", it is supremely rational and to think otherwise is irrational.
