With all these things we had no idea about what caused them. We still have no idea what dark matter is.

If you think about it for a moment, you will realise that all you have done is move "it just happens" from humans to some other entity that you choose to call God. If it is ludicrous in humans, it is equally ludicrous in any other entity.
