Up tp a point. Yes, they need someone who understands coding as a craft, but there is tremendous value in having someone who understands the domain. Otherwise it is like expecting a mechancial engineer experienced in designing car engines to design a bridge. Case in point, my brother joined a company on the basis of his expertise in coding for text-based games (yes, it was a long time ago), only to find that he would be working on animated games. Very different application area.
