Three observations:

1. I was told many years ago that whatever diagram you draw, someone will interpret it as a flow chart. I have found this to be true many times, even if the diagram is an entity-relationship diagram.

2. The above may be related to another historical memory - relationships are the history of flows. Not sure this is always true, I'm sure that there are some relationships (for example inheritance) where this is not true, but maybe stating that the history of a flow is a relationship is true.

3. It's important to distinguish between a flow chart, which is followed in sequence as in your example, and a flow diagram, where all flows and processes can be happening in parallel.
