The point is not that isolated people aren't stupid, but stupidity is(in most cases) only dangerous to society if it is widely supported. If there were only a few isolated nutters holding Anti-vax, pro-Trump, or pro-Brexit opinions it would be irrelevant to society as a whole. But they have managed to snare large numbers of people, who are not necessarily individually stupid, into their nets.
