Regardless, the word "tribe" is used here in Uganda on official documents. In the post that I originally replied to you mentioned African people referring to clans as opposed to tribes. At least in the culture with which I am most familiar, clans are sub-divisions of the tribe. The word "tribe" may be Euro-centric in its derivation (and really only because it comes from Latin), but then so is "clan". And neither concept is strictly Euro-centric.
