LIke many other people I came here to point out that building a car is essentially construction whereas building software is essentially design. That's why we don't build cars in sprints. Now if you had asked why don't we design and build cars in sprints that would have made more sense. But you didn't. You proposed a strawman of no value. So in responding to that there is no incentive for people to justify why Sprint is good because your counter-example is meaningless.

I personally prefer Kanban over Sprints, BTW.

Also, everyone involved in software (or indeed anything that calls itself engineering) MUST read Parnas and Clements classic paper "A Rational Design Process: How and Why to Fake It".
