I'll sum up your argument much more succinctly: "I don't understand it, therefore God." The same argument that has been used for thousands of years for phenomena we don't (at the time) understand. You even say it yourself, this is "God of the gaps" thinking.

Many things that appeared intractable and not understandable through science have since turned out to have perfectly reasonable explanations, why should consciousness not be one?
